Dental Implants

Missing Teeth can be unsightly, diminish chewing capacity, cause instability in your bite and add stress to the remaining teeth.  In most situations, dental implants are the best solution to replacing teeth as it doesn't negatively effect adjacent teeth like a bridge and is permanent unlike a removable denture or partial denture which comes in and out.

In our office, Dr. Herman, the only Periodontist doing surgery in Aspen, places all of the implants. A periodontist specializes in bone and gum surgery for 3 years to learn the skills of Implant Surgery as well as managing Periodontal Disease. We are glad to have him. Before he started practicing in our office, Dr. Turchin often sent to specialists in Grand Junction, Denver, Manhattan, and Los Angeles for quality care. Now, we are lucky enough to have a quality specialist right here in Aspen to give our patients the very best care.

Steps to replacing teeth with Implants

Consultation and Planning- We use the latest Cone Beam Technology that lets us see your implant site/bone 3 dimensionally and plan for the EXACT placement of the implant. In most instances, Dr. Herman will do the surgery guided. Guided surgery uses a stent that guides his surgery to the exact place he planned on the 3D Cone Beam or CAT scan. This allows the surgery to be much less invasive and much more predictable in outcome. Because the information is so precise, often this planning can be done without a separate consultation and Dr.Turchin and the team can schedule you straight for a quick and easy implant placement.

Bone Graft or Sinus Lift-  These are 2 different procedure used if there isn't enough bone where the implant should go. They are often done at the time of taking out a bad tooth or at the time of implant placement. Oftentimes, with the help of the 3D data frome the Cone Beam, Dr. Herman can do a non-invasive sinus lift from inside the extraction site at the time of implant placement This is referred technically as the Vertical Approach but often referred to a Sinus Bump.  We strive to minimize the amount of procedures while taking into account the most predictable long term outcome for you.

Implant Placement-  Placing the dental implant is a very quick and precise procedure due to our preplanning on the 3D software and guide used in placement. Oftentimes, the preparation with bone grafts or sinus lift can be done at the same time for your convenience and comfort.

Restoration of Implant- After the healing of the implant(called osteointegration) for 1-3 months, an abutment and crown can be placed. This procedure starts with a very quick impression and some photos for precise shade match.  A couple of weeks later, the tooth is ready for quick attachment to the implant
